The time is fast approaching to the 1st Business Plan pitching event for 2018. This is crucial for the twenty-four teams competing in the Challenge. Shortlisting of the businesses begin from this point! After the successful AgriTech Exchange in Feb 27 & 28, we finally have 24 business teams with a maximum of 5 in each team, competing in the AgriTech Challenge. They are tackling a number of interesting challenges. We will share details of this in the next update.

The objective of these training seminars is to ensure that the young entrepreneurs understand what goes into creating sustainable businesses.
The latest was the 2nd market research. This was more targeted towards learning from the value chain players that is, agribusiness, farmers etc based on the teams’ challenge to enable them to validate their business plans in preparation for the pitch event.
Pitch Prep & 1st Business Plan pitching event –
26th April to May 9th – For the next three weeks, Agribusiness consultants, Ben and Fred will take the teams through a gruelling pitch practice feedback at KEG eating area, (26th & 27th April) ; MEST (5th May) and Ampomah Hotel, East Legon (8-9th May).
KIC Going places!
KIC will feature at the 2018 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston Tx from April 30th to May 4th. For the first time in Kosmos’ history, the company will mount an exhibition at the upcoming OTC 2018, in Houston Texas. And guess what will be showcased? The Kosmos Innovation Center as the company’s flagship social investment programme. The theme chosen for the booth is ‘World-Class Explorer, Innovative Partner’.
TROTRO Tractor Limited in partnership with Agro Africa received a grant funding from the Alliance for a New Revolution in Africa (AGRA) under Financial Inclusion for Smallholder Farmers in Africa Project (FISFAP) to implement the Smallholder Agricultural Mechanization Project in the Brong-Ahafo, Northern, Upper East, and Upper West Region of Ghana. The goal of the project is to improve the incomes and agricultural productivity of 15,000 smallholder farmers in rice, soybean, maize and cassava value chains through increased access to mechanization services, provide efficient tractor allocation for smallholder farmers in Ghana.
Trotro Tractor was also recently selected to be part of H.E., the Vice President’s entourage to Silicon Valley, San Jose in California. the global nerve center for high technology, venture capital, innovation, and social media, taking KIC along with them.
AgroCenta – another start-up company which was part of the KIC programme up to the 1st pitch also crowned Global Winner of Seedstars World, receiving US$500,000 in equity funding. Its owner Francis Obrikorang is a member of the KIC Ideation team.
The final leg of Seedstars World early-stage pitching competition took place on Thursday with 21 African startups among the 65 finalists competing in Switzerland. At the live final pitching showdown, 12 shortlisted startups went head-to-head, with Agrocenta eventually being crowned the overall global winner of the contest, taking home a $500,000 investment from Seedstars World. Founded in 2013 by Swiss national Alisée de Tonnac, Seedstars World is the global startup competition aiming at impacting people’s lives in emerging markets

KIC Business Booster second 5-day Bootcamp – “Investment Preparedness” will take place from April 30th to May 4th, 2018 at the Alissa Swiss Spirit hotel. Following the one-day ‘Courting and Engaging the Investor’ workshop in February, which helped the ventures develop illustrative and actionable frameworks of their businesses in order to attract potential investors, we are confident that they are now capable and well prepared to ‘sell’ their businesses to seek support and build the investor relationships they require to scale-up. This 2nd Bootcamp which is the final part of the KIC Business Booster programme, will provide the ventures this opportunity
