Management of Kosmos Energy

Distinguished Invited Guests

Our friends from the Media

Ladies and Gentlemen.

I wish to express my profound gratitude to Kosmos Energy Ltd, for inviting me to be part of this ceremony. It is also gratifying to note that Kosmos Energy Ltd has decided to plough back to society for the benefit of Ghanaians, a social investment and not a social corporate responsibility initiative.

I must congratulate you for the choice of agriculture as a focus of this investment. This intervention is timely and appropriate when the sector increasingly requires additional investment and innovation. I am in no doubt that your initiative, would make a compelling case for the attraction of the youth to this sector. This is also so relevant when the youth are our future and initiatives like these serve to sow a seed for the future.

I am informed that Kosmos Energy since its operations in Ghana, has extended support to different sectors of the economy including health, educational and tourism and commend them highly. This support to the agricultural sector in view of its contribution to poverty reduction and employment generation, may be your most critical intervention yet.

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, Government continues to develop and implement initiatives such as the Youth Enterprise Support (YES) and the Youth Employment Agency. This innovation is in line with interventions of government and complements its efforts. One key interesting feature of the KOSMOS INNOVATION CENTRE (KIC), is the fact that it will engage our youth through innovation and ICT. This will greatly erode the erroneous impression that agriculture is only about tiling land when it is a serious business.

The youth are the change agents and part of the solution to lead development of every sector in this countryIndeed the youth’s participation in the KIC programme prepares and propels them as future leaders of this country. In this day and age when our farmers’ age averages 50 years and above and the youth have become disenchanted with agriculture, initiatives such as these will definitely whip their interest to be involved in the sector.

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen I am equally excited about the acceleration component , where  the KIC will look at building the capacity of small agribusiness by providing  both funding and technical support where needed.  Yes, we support this kind of programme which we believe will see a positive turnaround of enterprises, which potentially can have a strong socio-economic impact on the Ghanaian economy.

Mr. Chairman, this will surely be an evident based results which will attract more interest in agriculture and agribusiness.

Distinguished Invited Guest, Ladies and Gentlemen, the Ministry of Food & Agriculture takes this opportunity to call on other institutions to emulate the example of Kosmos Energy Ltd, and plough back their profits into such social investment initiatives.

Please join me in congratulating Kosmos Energy Ltd as I declare the KIC project officially launched.

Many thanks for your attention and God bless us all.
